The Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation says recent statistics show the Fond du Lac metro area still lags surrounding communities in the size and growth of the workforce. FCEDC president Steve Jenkins says there is a direct bearing between population and available workforce and Fond du Lac County has seen slower population growth than surrounding counties. Jenkins says the Fond du Lac County workforce increased 1.2 percent between 2013 and 2014, behind Appleton, Oshkosh and Sheboygan. Jenkins says its estimated that nearly 29,000 Fond du Lac County residents work in another county compared to 21 thousand people living outside Fond du Lac County but working here.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
