Fond du lac County officials say they don’t believe problems a developer has had with work at UW-Marshfield, will impact the UW Fond du lac student housing project. Iowa-based Bluffstone was hired for the Fond du Lac project. Fond du Lac County executive Al Buechel says a subcontractor at UW-Marshfield said it was not being paid and inspectors found building code deficiencies. But Buechel says the problems stem from the general contractor apparently unfamiliar with Wisconsin codes and a dispute between the subcontractor and general contractor. Buechel said after reviewing the situation he is confident the problems in Marshfield won’t occur here. Construction is scheduled to begin this April on the $4.9 million, three story UW Fond du Lac student housing facility. The complex is expected to open for the start of next school year.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
