MADISON, Wis. (AP) — One of the judges on the Wisconsin board that oversees elections, campaign finance and ethics laws tells the Speaker of the state Assembly that criticisms he made of the board were “just not true.” Government Accountability Board Chairman Gerald Nichol sent the letter to Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos last week. The GAB released the letter publicly on Monday. A spokeswoman for Vos says he was not immediately available to comment. Nichol was reacting to comments Vos made in a television news report last week in which he said staff at the GAB were acting without knowledge of board members in relation to an investigation into Gov. Scott Walker’s recall campaign and conservative groups. Nichol says the staff has taken no action without the board’s “full knowledge and prior approval.”
