The Fond du Lac School Board has approved extending the school day at Fond du Lac High School by 10 minutes. Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says the move would allow school staff to concentrate on administering the ACT tests to all juniors on Tuesday, March 3, and Wednesday, March 4, while the rest of the student body gets a day and a half off of school. “The ACT, we have to give that to 502 juniors. There’s some pretty strict and numerous requirements in terms of grouping sizes, the number of monitors we need, things we traditionally haven’t dealt with because kids have taken the ACT on their own on a Saturday at their family’s discretion,” Sebert told WFDL news. “Now that’s part of the state’s assessment package .” The plan calls for grades 9, 10 and 12 to be off of school on March 3 and return at 11:45 a.m. March 4. The time would be offset by making the planned early release day of Friday, March 6, a full day of school for all high school students. Sebert said the proposal would use up seven hours of school instructional time and adds 10 minutes to each school day, beginning Monday, Feb. 2 through the end of the school year. New hours for Fondy High would run from 7:55 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.
