The Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer says a flu epidemic that has hit area residents hard this winter appears to be winding down. Kim Mueller says it appears cases of the flu have peaked locally. “I would say for the last three weeks we have been seeing a decline,” Mueller told WFDL news. The flu vaccine was not a particularily good match for the flu strain that became widespread across the country. But Mueller says the vaccine can still help for the influenza B strain “If you haven;t gotten your vaccine for influenza it still wouldn’t be a bad idea for you to get it because although the first bout wasn’t a good match, whatever is circulating later in the season may be a good match,” Mueller said.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
