Mayville police are working with other law enforcement agencies and following up on tips following a police impersonation incident last week. Police Chief Chris MacNeil says the incident happened Friday on Highway TW near Theiler Park. MacNeil says the suspect was driving a Dodge Charger and activated red and blue lights on the vehicles dash to perform a traffic stop. The victim says the suspect displayed a gun and demanded his wallet. “We don’t have any suspects, we have been building from tips we have been getting in,” MacNeil told WFDL news. MacNeil says it does not appear the Mayville incident is related to a police impersonation incident earlier last week in the Fox Valley. “We have sent out requests to agencies throughout the state, anybody having anything similar to where we can determine where this gentleman might be out of.” MacNeil says many law enforcement agencies have unmarked Dodge Chargers in their fleet making it sometimes difficult for the average citizen to know if its a legitimate officer. “A lot of agencies that have Dodge Chargers are using them as clean top with no striping on them. When you have red and blue lights on the dashboard that could be a detective, it could be a state trooper, another agency that has chosen not to stripe that vehicle,” MacNeil said. MacNeil says if you are suspicious …you can call police on your cell phone or drive to a well lit area such as a gas station. The suspect is described as a white, clean shaven male with short brown hair, standing approximately 5-feet 10-inches tall and weighing 190-205 pounds. The suspect is believed to be in his late 30’s to early 40’s and was wearing a tan long sleeve shirt and blue jeans. He’s considered armed and dangerous.
