Fond du Lac Republican State representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt says his initial reaction is favorable to governor Scott Walker’s proposed budget. Thiesfeldt says the governor’s budget delivers on the promises he made to residents during his re-election campaign. “We’re continuing to see exactly what Scott Walker says he is. He is a reformer who is looking to save money, cut taxes at every opportunity he has,” Thiesfeldt told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. “Its been a long time since we had someone like this as governor in the state of Wisconsin.” Thiesfeldt says there are areas where he has at least some reservations including the governor’s plan to borrow more than a billion dollars to pay for transportation. Thiesfeldt says the governor’s proposal to slash UW System funding is a way to try to make higher education more affordable.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
