It’s not enough to be called the Sturgeon Spearing Capital of the World. Starting Monday, Lake Winnebago will be teeming with activity below the surface and on the ice. Fisherman can expect a larger sturgeon harvest now that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources increased the cap for 2015, and on the ice, racers from around the world will be competing in the 2015 World Ice and Snow Sailing Championship. It all begins Monday, when racers from Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia, Sweden, Ukraine and the U.S. take the ice for the world’s only competition that includes three classes of ice sailing. WISSA will take place throughout the week off the southeast shore from Roosevelt Park on Lake Winnebago, culminating on Saturday, Feb. 14, when the 2015 Sturgeon Spearing season begins.
