Fond du Lac County public health and school officials are trying to get the word out to parents to make sure their kids are immunized for the measles. Fond du lac school officials mailed a letter to parents last week. Fond du Lac County Public Health nurse Joyce Mann says the message comes in the wake of the largest measles outbreak in the United States in more than a decade. Mann says people who are vaccinated have a one in 100 chance of getting the measles if they are exposed…but a 90 in 100 chance without the vaccination. There are now more than 100 confirmed cases of measles in 14 states, none so far in Wisconsin.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
