2-10-15 league of women voters-budget

todayFebruary 10, 2015

The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin says a proposed state budget would muzzle watchdogs and dismantle institutions of society.  League director Andrea Kaminski says she is particularily concerned about provisions in the budget that she was would weaken the checks and balances to protect citizens from special interests and government gone awry.  Kaminski says an example is a proposal in the budget to place the Wisconsin Judicial Commission under the control of the state Supreme Court.  “That’s the fox watching the hen house,”  Kaminski told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  The League is also concerned about the proposal to cut $300 million in funding for the UW system.  “But the budget at the same time also attacks the instuttion’s ability to self-govern,”  Kamuinski said.
