2-13-15 fdl county veterans service officer surprised at tomah va allegations

todayFebruary 13, 2015

The Fond du Lac County Veterans Service officer says he was surprised when he heard about problems involving over prescribing opiates for patients at the VA Medical Center in Tomah.  Rick Patton says there are a handful of Fond du Lac Count veterans who travel to Tomah for services and at least one that receives opiate treatment.  Meanwhile, at a hearing of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs committee this week,  U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin highlighted problems at Tomah as a clear example of systemic failures and management by VA leadership and the Veterans Health Administration as well as inconsistent and noncompliant processes at individual facilities.  Patton says that’s why he wishes an investigation independent of the VA would be done.
