The Fond du Lac County executive is expressing concern about portions of governor Scott Walker’s budget. Al Buechel says he’s concerned how the governor’s proposed $300 million cut to the UW system will impact the UW Fond du Lac. Buechel says he is also concerned with proposed changes to Family Care that would basically change it into an insurance entity. “Fond du Lac County piloted that program. Now what they’re going to do is basically eliminate all the districts so its going to have to become more like an insurance company,” Buechel told WFDL news. Buechel says local control would be lost under the proposal.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
