Roundtable discussions are being held around the state this week in an effort by state lawmakers to review the state’s administrative code. Republican state representative Joan Ballweg of Markesan says the Red Tape Review is a multi-session effort to review the code and make updates by removing outdated and burdensome rules. Ballweg says a good example of an outdated rule involves recharging vehicle air conditioners. Ballweg says new technology has made the administrative rule that’s on the books obsolete.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
