The Rosendale Brandon School administrator says the governor’s proposed budget is to blame for a halt to a year round school proposal for grades K-5 students. Gary Hansen says the school board felt now is probably not the time to move forward with year round school with the possibility of a significant cut in state aid under the governor’s budget. Hansen says under the governor’s budget the Rosendale Brandon School District would lose more than $300 million in state aid. Hansen says the board was hoping to move forward with year round school as early as this summer. Hansen says because of state budget cuts the idea is on hold indefinitely. Hansen says the idea of year round school has been discussed for a number of years. He says studies show year round school can improve student’s academic performance by avoiding the summer slide where students forget what they had learned from the previous school year. There are currently four Wisconsin school districts that offer year round classes in some form.
