A former Waupun resident was killed in a drive by shooting in Milwaukee. Police say 24 year old Ryan T. Rompre, and a 25-year-old woman were traveling in a car on Milwaukee’s northside when another vehicle pulled next to them and opened fire. The incident happened February 11th in the 4400 block of Roosevelt Drive. The woman suffered non life-threatening injuries, but Rompre died on Feb. 17 at Froedtert Memorial Hospital in Wauwatosa. At the time of the shooting, police said they believed it may have been drug related. Police are continuing to look for the suspect. Rompre, who was living in Appleton at the time of shooting, but attended Waupun schools and was a student at Fox Valley Technical College.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
