2-25-15 former republican assembly speaker opposed to right to work

todayFebruary 25, 2015

The former Republican speaker of the Assembly says right to work would diminish the structure of Wisconsin’s economy by diluting wages and squeezing disposable income that can be spent supporting local businesses.    Speaking on behalf of the trades group,  Wisconsin Infrastructure Investment Now, former speaker John Gard says its been proven in state after state that right to work lowers wages and benefits for all trades professionals, not just union members.  “We believe its an unnecessary intrusion from government into private sector contracts between a private employer and a private employee,”  Gard told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  “I’ve always believed that’s not a role for the government to play.”   Gard says the negative effects of right to work will be felt throughout Wisconsin’s economy.
