Fond du lac Baseball Inc. says they are considering all options following the school board’s decision not to renew its lease regarding operation of the Woodworth Baseball complex. The 15 year lease expired Wednesday. In a statement issued this week Baseball Inc says over the coming months the organization will continue to pursue an agreement with the school board. “ We, the board members of FdL Baseball, Inc. are disappointed that the Fond du Lac Board of Education chose not to move toward an agreeable solution during their brief, closed-door meeting on February 16th. We fear that their unwillingness to speak with us will lead to a significant distrust in our community from individuals, businesses, charities and civic organizations. We are also concerned for the future of baseball in Fond du Lac, 4th Street field usage and the replacement of a charity with taxpayer funding of the Youth Baseball Park improvements and maintenance, should it continue.” At the same time Baseball Inc says it will consider all options including the sale of Youth Baseball Park improvements to the Fond du Lac School District or a 3rd party, the outright sale of the 4th Street property, acquisition of land on which to install fixtures in place at the baseball park and any other viable options. The statement says it is the intention of Baseball Inc to delay removal of personal property essential to the play of baseball until the conclusion of the season, if possible. Fond du Lac school superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert said Baseball Inc. was unwilling to work with the district to modernize the lease. Sebert says the recreation department will work with Fond du Lac Youth Baseball for the upcoming season.
