Central Wisconsin Christian School in Waupun is one of 36 schools applying for the first time to be a voucher school. Director of Advancement Gregg Zonnefeld says the board made the decision to apply after talking with schools that participated in the program in its first year. “Our initial motivation is how do you help families who are currently in your school for whom the tuition is a very large burden,” Zonnefeld told WFDL news. “Beyond that are there other families who maybe come and kick the tires and say we can’t afford it when we see the tuition or don’t even think of private education as an option because of the cost.” Enrollment is currently limited to 1,000 students, but Gov. Scott Walker’s budget proposal would remove the enrollment cap after this year:

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
