3-4-15 uw students protest proposed cuts

todayMarch 4, 2015

University of  Wisconsin student leaders say the governor’s proposed cuts to the UW system would hurt students in the pocketbook and classroom.  Governor Walker is proposing to cut $300 million from the UW system.  President of the United Council of UW students, Amanda McGovern, is a student at UW-Stevens Point.  “My initial reaction was honestly a little worried,”  McGovern told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  “I already see my class sizes being a lot larger than they used to be, I see all of the classes cut in the last biennium.”   Council executive director, Neke Akubeze, says the cuts will be made up by raising student fees, and eventually tuition.  McGovern says rising costs will force students to work year round while they are going to school.
