A Kewaskum man was taken into custody this week after an armed standoff with police. At about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Wildlife Drive in the Village of Kewaskum for an intoxicated suicidal subject in possession of a rifle. Kewaskum Police Chief Tom Bishop says a tactical situation ensued when the 21 year old subject was uncooperative with authorities. Bishop says after about an hour, the man was brought into custody without further incident and evaluated for the suicidal statements that were made. Charges of disorderly conduct – domestic abuse related, and endangering safety by use of a weapon are being requested through the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
