The Waupun police chief says people need to take a step back and allow the investigation to be completed before rushing to any judgement in the police shooting of an unarmed teenager in Madison. Waupun police chief Dale Heeeringa says it seems that officers are facing more potentially life-threatening situations even in smaller communities. “It is a tough situation anytime someone loses their life in any situation its a bad thing,” Heeringa told WFDL news. “Nineteen years old is a very young age. With the law enforcement end of it, being a police officer anywhere in the United States is getting to be a tough job. Its been a tough job in the past and I think its getting tougher as we go along with the time.” Heeringa says officers are out on the street making split second decisions. Heeringa says even in Waupun officers are dealing with more dangerous types of crime.
