3-12-15 fdl council approves library expansion

todayMarch 12, 2015

The Fond du Lac city council has approved purchasing a building for a library expansion project..  At their meeting Wednesday night the council approved  a resolution amending the budget to spend $270,000 for the purchase of the building directly east of the library  on Sheboygan Street.  Library director Jon Mark Bolthouse says the first phase would involve moving the Book Cellar from the library basement to the new building.  The BookCellar offers used books and movies for sale.  Bolthouse says the BookCellar space would be transformed into what is being called the Idea Studio which is being funded by private donations and grants.  Bolthouse says that move will result in cost savings that will pay for an expansion of the Children’s room and creating a teen area.  He says the expansion will help alleviate significant overcrowding on the main level.
