Waupun police had to subdue a man with a Taser after he was initially released to the custody of his mother. Police took the 25 year old man into custody on Friday morning for a drug related first time OWI offense. Because it was his first offense the man was released to the custody of his mother as an alternative to holding the subject in jail until he was sober. A very short time after he left Waupun Memorial Hospital with his mother, the mother called police stating her son ran off from her control and she was concerned he may hurt himself. A short time later an officer located the subject walking on a sidewalk on W. Lincoln St. and ordered him to stop. The subject ignored officers commands and resisted when the officer tried to physically stop him. Police say when the subject took off his sweatshirt and assumed a fighting stance the officer deployed his Taser. The man was transported to the Dodge County Jail.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
