Federal authorities say they are looking at a man killed in a shootout with a Wisconsin state trooper as a suspect in at least two bank robberies in Wisconsin and possibly more in other states. FBI spokesman Leonard Peace says agents are investigating Steven Timothy Snyder of Michigan in bank robberies Tuesday in Marinette County and the city of Fond du Lac. Peace says Snyder may be connected to unsolved robberies in other states. Snyder exchanged gunfire with rookie trooper Trevor Casper in Fond du Lac, killing the 21-year-old trooper as he was on his first solo patrol. Snyder is also a suspect in the killing of a 59-year-old man in Wausaukee earlier in the day. Its not the first time Snyder has been in Fond du Lac. In 1996 he was arrested for disorderly conduct in connection with what police said was a racially motivated fight. Sources say Snyder has had ties to white supremacy groups in the past.
