3-26-15 trooper killed-reaction

The state Troopers Association and area law enforcement is Reacting to this week’s heroic actions by a trooper who paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the community.  Trooper Trevor Casper was shot  and killed, but not before he shot  and killed a bank robbery suspect in Fond  du Lac at the Johnson Street Pick N Save parking lot Tuesday evening.  President of the Wisconsin Troopers Association, Glenn Jones, tells AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program  Casper started last July as a member of the patrol’s 60th recruit class graduating from the academy last December and was on his first solo patrol.  “It feels like you just got punched in the stomach,”  Jones said.  “To find out something like this happens to a person as they’re starting their career, at any stage of their careers, its just tragic.”   Jones says the incident is a case in point of the dangers officers face every day.  Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says it hits close to home and his thoughts and prayers are with the family of the fallen trooper.  Reacting to the officer returning gun fire after he was wounded.  “He was doing what he was trained to do, that’s what we are all trained to do.  We are trained to fight through any injury that we may be a victim of.  We don’t give up.”
