Bail was set at $1000 cash for a Fond du Lac man accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in a bathroom at the Fond du Lac Public Library. Twenty one year old Edmund Banach is charged with having sex with a child 16 or older and obstructing an officer, both misdemeanors. According to a criminal complaint the girl told police that she was in the unisex bathroom on March 29 at the library when Banuch entered, pinned her against a wall, and sexually assaulted her. Banuch said he entered the bathroom because he heard screaming, and denied any wrong doing. He stated the teen blocked the door and tried to keep him from leaving the bathroom. Assistant Police Chief Steve Klein says the victim and the suspect were familiar with each other.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
