Nobody was injured in a chimney fire in Fond du Lac. Firefighters were called to the scene at 178 University Avenue shortly before midnight Friday to find heavy smoke and flames coming out of the chimney of the single family home. The residents were unaware their chimney was on fire, but were able to safely evacuate after a passerby knocked on their door. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire and kept the fire from spreading further. The home did sustain moderate smoke conditions and was ventilated so the occupants could remain in their home for the evening.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
