Dozens of firefighters helped fight an out of control brush fire off Highway 45 north of the Lakeside Park west entrance Thursday morning. Fond du Lac fire chief Pete O’Leary says the fire in Supple’s Marsh was reported around 8am. The fire burned several acres and was out by 9:30am. O’Leary says firefighters were working to prevent the fire from jumping over the highway and spreading to the west. O’Leary says a discarded cigarette may have started the fire.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
