Bail has been set at $5000 cash for a Fond du Lac man accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a child. Fifty four year old Carlos Pacheco-Tapia, made his initial Fond du Lac Court appearance this week on a charge of repeated sexual assault of the same child. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 14th. He is accused of having sexual contact with a girl younger than 13 when she was in the second and third grades of school.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
