Medical helicopter administrators are expressing concern about the potential impact of more people flying drones for personal and commercial use. Flight for Life helicopter spokesman Jayce Commo tells WFDL news medical helicopters and drones don’t mix. He says they can create a risk for a medical helicopter and crew. Commo says as the price for drones has come down they are becoming more and more common. FAA guidelines dictate that a drone must not be flown within five miles of an airport of hospital helipad with permission. Commo says Flight forLife is working with first responders and hospitals in Fond du Lac, Waupun and Ripon to try to get the word out. Commo says air medical and law enforcement helicopters in New York, Ohio, and California have already reported issues with drones…so far nothing in our area.
