ConAgra Foods has announced it will be closing one of two cookie plants in Ripon this fall. The maker of Rippin’ Good Cookies will close its west plant starting in September. The plant employs about 300 people. The laid off workers will be able to apply for other positions in the company. A company spokesman says the east plant, which produces wafer cookies will remain open.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
