The Dodge County sheriff says a lower participation rate in a prescription drug drop off event last weekend may be a result of more permanent drug drop off sites open year round throughout the county. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says there are now drug drop boxes in several Dodge county communities. “We had a few people stop in. I think what people are starting to realize is that we have these boxes that are available throughout Dodge County,” Schmidt told WFDL news. Schmidt says its still important to remind people not to discard outdated prescription drugs in the trash or flush down the toilet.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
