5-21-15 next phase of hwy 23 project begins next week

todayMay 21, 2015

After being delayed for several years because of a pending lawsuit construction is expected to resume next week on a project that will eventually make Highway 23 four lanes from Fond du Lac to Sheboygan.  The $10.4 million project that starts Tuesday involves a 7.5 mile stretch from County Highway P in Sheboygan County to the Fond du Lac County line.  A DOT spokesman says both traffic lanes will be open during construction.  The entire project from Plymouth to Fond du Lac is scheduled for completion in 2019.  But DOT secretary Mark Gottlieb said the project could still be delayed if the state legislature reduces the amount of money borrowed to pay for transporation projects.  The Highway 23 project was delayed four years ago when the group 1000 Friends of Wisconsin filed a lawsuit, arguing the project was unnecessary.
