6-16-15 fdl alcohol and licensing committee recommends denial of retlaw liquor license

todayJune 16, 2015

The Fond du lac Alcohol and Licensing committee is recommending the city council deny the renewal of the historic Retlaw Hotel’s liquor license.  The committee voted to recommend denial at their meeting Monday night.  Committee member and council vice president Gary Miller says he was surprised that no one representing the hotel showed up at the meeting.  “Very surprised,”  Miller told WFDL news.  “Nobody showed up, so we moved ahead to set the record, made the motion to deny the license.”   The hotel owes the city more than $60,000 in utility bills and property taxes.  Miller says the committee recommends that unless the hotel pays what it owes, it will lose its license.  According to a complaint filed by the city the Retlaw owes nearly  $28,000 in unpaid 2014 and 2015 utility bills and more than $33,000 in unpaid property taxes.
