The Fond du Lac County board has approved a supplemental wage increase for the union representing a group of social services employees. County Executive Al Buechel says because of Act 10 the group received a smaller pay increase this year compared to other non-union employees. “There’s another factor we have to keep in mind. They are part of a five county consortium and their wages are way below the other four counties,” Buechel said. Buechel says the 70 workers will receive a lump sum payment averaging about $130.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
