MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Officials in Gov. Scott Walker’s administration are assuring legislators that a $138 million computer project is on track. The state Department of Administration has been working since 2012 to implement the State Transforming Resources project, or STAR, a single cohesive computer system for state agencies to handle finances, payroll and procurement. Scott Thornton is the leader of DOA’s STAR finance team. He told the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Information Policy and Technology during a briefing Tuesday that STAR will replace more than 140 individual systems across state agencies, some of which were built in the 1980s. Thornton told the committee STAR is now operational and remains within its budget. Dawn McCauley, the STAR project manager, said the state has spent $81.7 million on the system so far.
