6-19-15 republicans squabble over transportation funding

todayJune 18, 2015

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republican state Sen. Alberta Darling is standing by comments she made that two Republican leaders of the state Assembly called disingenuous.  Darling did not retreat Thursday from saying Assembly Republicans want to delay work on the Zoo Interchange to put pressure on the Senate to go along with a hike in the gas tax or registration fees.  Darling wants to protect the interchange near Milwaukee from delays.  Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Darling’s Joint Finance Committee co-chair Rep. John Nygren issued a press release earlier Thursday saying Darling was misstating their position. They say they do not support raising the gas tax or fees. Gov. Scott Walker has said he would veto any such increase.
