Fond du Lac County officials are eyeing a site just outside the City of Fond du Lac for a new Highway garage and hope the county board will approve the land purchase this summer. Fond du Lac County Highway commissioner Tom Jahnke says the Highway Department has outgrown its current facility on Dixie Street. “You can kick the can down the road and we’ve been doing that for quite a while with this facility,” Jahnke told WFDL news. “The fact of the matter is this facility is too small.” Jahnke says the county is eyeing a site off the 151 Bypass near Hickory Road to build the $22 million facility. County executive Al Buechel says currently the project is slated to begin in 2021.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
