MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Governor Scott Walker says he wants to assure Wisconsin residents that the government will not coerce them to act against their religious beliefs. Walker in a statement Friday said he believes the state constitution protects religious rights. The statement came in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
