Alliant Energy and Fond du Lac fire crews have repaired a gas main leak. Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says sidewalk construction crews accidentally struck a natural gas main in the area of 9th and Lloyd Streets over the lunch hour. Haase says residents in a two block area were evacuated and police squads blocked the streets to traffic. The leak was repaired and residents were allowed to return to their homes shortly after 2pm.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
