7-13 security report

todayJuly 12, 2015

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state’s Homeland Security Council has released a new report realigning threat priorities and strategies.  The council presented the report to Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch during a news conference Friday. The document names cyber-security, preparing to face terrorist attacks and unusual problems such as infectious disease, responding to catastrophes and sustaining response capabilities as the top priorities for the next four years.  David Cagigal, the state’s chief information officer, says the state blocked 60 million cyber-attacks on its systems in June.  The report calls on state agencies to create a plan for responding to cyber-disruption, improve awareness of cyber-attacks, develop a social media policy for state workers and develop chip-enabled state ID cards. Wisconsin National Guard Maj. Gen. Donald Dunbar says agencies have already agreed to begin implementing those strategies.
