MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker can thank labor unions for his rise in Republican politics. On the eve of his presidential announcement in Waukesha, Walker reminded Republicans across the country about that four-year-old fight and his subsequent triumphs. The Wisconsin governor became a national figure after enacting laws that weakened labor unions’ power. He then survived a union-backed recall election.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
