7-14-15 jordy nelson to help fdl firefighters

Fond du Lac Fire Fighters will join the Green Bay Packers and the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin in what will be called the Fill-the-Helmet campaign which will provide child ID kits to all K-12 children across the state.  Green Bay Packer wide receiver, Jordy Nelson, will be helping to kick the program off at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue.  The Packers were looking for a teammate who could help raise funds, safety awareness, and distribute child ID kits in their communities.  They selected their first round draft choice in the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin.  “Fire Fighters are highly respected in our communities and their help is always just a phone call away,” said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy.   “The PFFW is grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Green Bay Packers on this important initiative to protect Wisconsin’s children,” said Mahlon Mitchell, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin. “Our members are committed to protecting our communities and our citizens from harm, and this effort is an important step in doing so.”   Fond du Lac City Manager Joe Moore truly appreciates the chance to support this worthwhile cause. Joe Moore stated, “Firefighters and Paramedics work tirelessly to insure our safety so it’s a natural fit for them to participate in a wonderful program created to improve children’s safety.”   The Fond du Lac Fire Fighters see this as a wonderful chance to get involved with two great organizations to help raise awareness.  “This program is so worthwhile that we jumped at the opportunity, “ said Todd Shippee, president of IAFF Local 400. “This is a great opportunity for our community to raise money to protect the welfare of our own children.”   City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue (FDLFR) Chief Peter O’Leary is excited to have this unique opportunity to support the grass-roots effort in Wisconsin. “The men and women of FDLFR are honored and will do what it takes to make this cause a success in our community and throughout the state.”    Fond du Lac will join Milwaukee in kicking off the program this month and over 4,000 professional fire fighters will help Fill-the-Helmet this summer and fall.  All funds received in this campaign will be donated to the Safety Blitz Foundation in order to provide child ID kits.
