The Dodge County Sheriff says he’s pleased a judge rescinded an order to place a convicted child sex offender in a home next to a residence where two young children live. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says Judge Joseph Sciasia wasn’t aware of that when he initially placed Robert Larson at the town of Leroy residence. Schmidt says its important that the Department of Health Services knows who lives in the neighborhood, especially in more isolated areas like this. Another judge will consider a similar request for another sex offender living at the same residence at a hearing next month.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
