On Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 8:27 PM the Fond du lac County 911 Center received a report of a possible drowning in Lake Deneveu. Lake Deneveu is located in the Town of Empire, southeast of Fond du Lac. 70 year old, Charles “Chuck” Westby of rural Fond du Lac was swimming near some boats and disappeared in the water. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies along with the Sheriff’s Dive team, Eden First Responders and FDL Fire Dept Paramedics responded.
Sheriff’s Office divers worked until midnight and returned at 6am Sunday morning to continue the search.
At 3:53 pm on Sunday, the body of Charles “Chuck” Westby was recovered in 22 feet of water. Sunday the Sheriff’s Office worked with the Wisconsin DNR using an underwater sonar/camera system to search. The Town of Fond du Lac Fire Dept assisted with filling the dive air tanks. The joint investigation between the Wisconsin DNR and the Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
