The Waupun police chief says the death of a K9 in a parked squad at the PGA championship shows that even the most elaborate air conditioning systems can fail. The Brown County sheriff’s office says the dog was in the squad for 47 minutes before being found dead. The sheriff’s office says the air conditioning had stopped working, and the car’s K-9 heat alarm didn’t activate. Waupun police chief Dale Heeringa says the Waupun PD has a similar system for its K9 officer. “That system consists of an alarm system. If the temperature gets over a certain degree, the headlights flash, the horn in the vehicle sounds and also the back windows roll down,” Heeringa told WFDL news. Heeringa says its not unusual for the handler to leave the K9 in the vehicle while responding to calls.
