MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Legislature’s budget committee has voted unanimously not to override Governor Scott Walker’s decision to employ a rarely used veto power to block a $3 million fund transfer. Walker on August 6th vetoed a decision by the Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee approving $15.8 million in spending by the Transportation Department to pay for installing 70 mile per hour speed limit signs, road salt and a variety of other maintenance needs.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
