The Department of Public Works is reminding motorists that an ongoing reconstruction project on 9th Street will impact traffic as kids head back to school next month and with football games at Fruth Field. The construction project affecting 9th Street between Main Street and Linden Street is expected to continue into the second week of October. During the project, 9th Street remains closed to through traffic between Linden and Center Streets. However, Linden Street remains open to traffic at all times during construction. Main Street remains open to traffic; however will be closed for up to 2 weeks, at a date to be determined. The intersection of 9th Street and Center Street is also closed to through traffic.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
