EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) — Religious waiver forms that will be distributed this week to every county in Wisconsin are expected to resolve a dispute over building codes between Eau Claire County and its Amish community. State Representative Kathy Bernier introduced the amendment after Eau Claire County pursued actions against several Amish families for noncompliance with code.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
