An Appleton attorney from Fond du Lac is charged with contempt for allegedly misrepresenting his client in a robbery case. Michael Petersen pleaded not guilty at his initial Outagamie County Court appearance this week. A trial is set for October. Investigators say Peterson lied when he told his client that if he pled guilty the charges would later be amended making him eligible for prison treatment programs. Petersen is accused of doctoring emails between himself and the district attorney’s office and forging a court document with a judge’s signature. Investigators say Petersen later admitted to creating the fake document to get the client “off his back.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
